Long Term Disability Income
Rehabilitation Program

The ability to return to the workforce can have tremendous positive effects - both psychologically and financially. The AICPA Long Term Disability Income Plan helps with the transition by allowing you to earn income while still receiving monthly benefits at reduced amounts. The Plan is completely voluntary and will pay for approved vocational training.

If you are receiving Plan benefits and wish to resume earning income, simply send a written request to Prudential to be placed on rehabilitation status. Prudential determines the duration of your rehabilitation status and will send you written notice of your entry into the Rehabilitation Program. If you have not sent a written request to Prudential and have resumed earning income while in benefit, further benefits will cease.

In place of your regular monthly benefit, the benefit paid while in the Rehabilitation Program will be your regular monthly benefit reduced by 50% of your monthly earnings. However, your earned income plus the reduced benefit paid will not exceed 125% of your regular monthly disability income benefit.

For example, if your regular monthly benefit is $1,000 and you earn $300 a month while in the Rehabilitation Program, 50% of your monthly earnings, or $150 is used to reduce your benefit to $850. Counting your earnings plus the monthly disability benefit, your total monthly income would be $1,150. Please see the illustration below.

Monthly disability benefit $1,000
50% of your monthly earnings -$150
Reduced monthly benefit $850
Your monthly earnings +$300
Your monthly income on rehabilitation status $1,150

You will continue to receive reduced Plan benefits while on rehabilitation status until your monthly earnings reach 125% of your regular monthly benefit. At this point, no benefit is payable and you are no longer considered on rehabilitation status.

Vocational Rehabilitation Benefits
The Plan also covers approved vocational training expenses. If Prudential determines that a vocational rehabilitation program will assist you in becoming self-supporting, and you wish to participate in such a program, Prudential will notify you of the type of expenses that will be covered, and the duration during which they may be incurred. Any payments made to cover vocational rehabilitation will be in addition to your monthly disability income benefits paid under this Plan.
