Professional Liability
Risk Management Program

The AICPA believes that all accounting professionals should be well educated on the management of liability risks that can arise throughout an engagement; therefore, in addition to providing broad coverage for firms of all sizes, the AICPA Professional Liability Insurance Program places special emphasis on its Risk Management Program.

With over 30 years of experience providing malpractice insurance coverage to accounting professionals, the CNA insurance companies* have gained the knowledge necessary to help CPAs manage the type of risks which have historically led to malpractice claims. Additionally, CNA regularly consults with a variety of CPAs across the country, the AICPA, state CPA societies, and accountants professional liability attorneys to keep current on changing professional standards, regional and local practice issues, and laws which affect the accounting profession.

Violations of technical professional standards are and will continue to be a significant factor in generating claims against accountants. However, economic trends, industry practices, government regulations, market forces, and individual practice management philosophies will be a driving force in determining the type and severity of malpractice claims that may be pursued in the future.

CNA is committed to performing ongoing research on these issues and to providing current information to AICPA Program insureds to assist them in identifying potentially high risk activities and implementing practice management strategies to minimize risk in their daily practice. This is accomplished through:

  • Policyholder Resource Center - Exclusive access to additional resources for our Professional Liability policyholders.

  • Risk Management Resource Area- This area maintains a library of articles published in The Risk Management Resource and Case in Point. An index of titles is provided for your easy reference. Use the site search button for more detailed searches.

  • Risk Management Training- The cornerstone of the Risk Management Program is the extensive training available to policyholders. For an additional fee the program offers a live risk management seminar and interactive webcast*. Both can help firms identify high-risk engagements and appropriate steps needed to reduce liability exposure. Seminar and webcast attendees earn CPE credits and their firm can earn premium credits of up to 7.5% per year, for three consecutive years.

*Seminar and webcast availability and cost subject to schedule.

  • Risk Management Newsletters- A semi-annual publication of The Risk Management Resource provides information on minimizing liability risks, answers questions on AICPA Professional Liability Program coverages, and alerts members to details on seminars, conferences, and new program products or services.
